Biketour-Inventary

On the long cycling days… you might find yourself talking about anything and everything with your companions for the day. One topic that came up was STUFF. some people seemed to have just 2 bike bags and nothing else, some people have entire trailers for their pet (see past posts with the dog!) whilst some people seemed to be balancing half a dozen stuff sacks on their racks (ahem.. me). A few of us made comparive lists of our personal equipment and decided to publish them – this could either be read as a packing list guide (or, what not…

Tartu-City of apples -> How to do apple-recycling and more dumpsterdive

As we really enjoyed our time visiting lots of interesting places around Tartu, we decided to leave a new post to share some stuff we really considered to be worth mentioned here. We came to visit an selforganized garden-project, called “Vaksali kogukonna aed”. They are located at a nice spot next to the mainrailwaystation. The place is surrounded by an old building which was once used as police station and now works like kind of temporary use. Basicly they started growing and constructing the garden just at the beginning of this year but there´s already quite a lot to discover.…

Klaipeda – Liepaja / Radi Vidi Pats

Hello bike tour blog followers, this is Jacob typing. I joined the group a few days ago in Palanga. What follows is an account of my first few days cycling with the bike tour. After the stress of hauling a bike across Europe finding three scruffy looking cyclists stood by some trees in Palanga was a joy and the question ‘shall we cycle’ only had one answer. We cycled northwards along a bike path heading to the Latvian border. The path teemed with holiday goers on rented bikes or rolling skates.  The absence of cars and presence of sun made…

Compost-toilet out of trash

Paulina invited us to stay at her tiny garden house in the allotment gardens of hajnowka. Shower was a garden hose, food supply came from the incredibly friendly neighbours, our tents were spread out in the garden, toilet was in Kaufland or in the forest. We had some beautiful days there with her. As a thank you we built an own toilet next to the house. So, for the planning, following questions came up: How will the toilet be used? Where should it be? Which kind of toilet? Out of what will we built it? As Paulinas father is building…

campfires, sandpits, cow pastures and swamps

Finally the group somehow has improved its routine. Cycling, cooking and camping is working. We where so occupied with the visa for belarus that we hardly could organize our daily tasks… But we found nice sleeping places every night and we cycled through very beautiful landscapes. Especially the area around the Bug was nice. In the tiny villages, every house has a bench in front, where the people hang out and meet each other. We are always a big attraction cycling through. The dogs running after us, barking, and then suddendly jumping back when Knoedel, the biketour-dog barks back.

The Rocketstove

“Kraft Automotive” (Force Carmotivs) – is written on the barrel out of which the 2016’s Rocketstove is made. It was built in the Radical Allotment Gardens in Warsaw in the first days of the biketour. Built out of Trash that the R.O.D – people had collected. We could use all of their stuff, they had that barrel and some leftover ovenpipes. They hat even some of that alluminium-tape which is made for exactly that purpose. Actually we only had to buy the special insulation material required called Perlite. It is some vulcanic stone material, natural and very light. So what…
