Announcement: the route for 2026

Introducing the rough route plan and rough dates (=changes possible!) for Ecotopia Biketour 2026.

Some notes:

Regular cycling is planned to be around 35–55km per day, with an overall average of 37km/day, and a rest day every fourth day. During the Childish Weeks we bike around 20km per day and have rest days more often. The start and end date, and region for the Childish Weeks are set and won’t be changed.

Unlike some previous years, there is no QINTAW start. Everyone is invited from the beginning. The QINTAW start in previous years was a tool to make the culture of the tour more inclusive to people who are queer, questioning, intersex, nonbinary, trans, agender, or women (QINTAW). In the past years, the bike tour has made good progress in this area. We decided to not have a QINTAW start because it’s less needed and we don’t like to separate people based on their identity when we can avoid it. In addition, some of the problems with FLINTA spaces apply to QINTAW spaces too, and make it so not all QINTAW folks feel welcome.

Below, the locations where we have a host are in all caps in the text. There are fewer projects this year as previous years, especially during the long stretch between Stockholm and Oslo. We did our best to find projects and hosts but if we missed a project you know of (or if you plan to start a project there in the coming months :)) let us know! During this part of the route there are many wind shelters however, where we can stop by.

For some place names we use the local Sámi name, and the wider known name in brackets. For example Ubmeje (Umeå).

Rough Route Plan:

Pretour: (by hitchhiking)

7–13th of June: Pretour in Jåhkåmåhkke (Jokkmokk). We will go there without bikes and hitchhike there and back from around Ubmeje (Umeå) or Bygdeå.

Biketour:

13–18th of June: Start and preparation of the tour at a project in BYGDEÅ

18(–19th) of June: Cycling

19–20th of June: Spending Midsummer in Ubmeje (Umeå)

21st June–7th of July: Cycling and visiting two projects: SKOGSNÄS and a private location. Mind that most roads during this route are not paved, and that temperatures at night can be lower than we’re used to on the biketour.

– – – 8th of July: taking train from Sundsvall to Uppsala) – – –

8–10th of July: UPPSALA (to be confirmed)

10–11th of July: Cycling

11–16th of July: STOCKHOLM, where we will prepare for more people joining the tour

16–27th of July: Cycling via Norrköping and Linköping

27–30th of July: JÖNKÖPING (host to be confirmed)

30–31st of July: Cycling

1–14th of August: The Childish Weeks: Borås–Göteborg–Trollhättan. Check below for more detailed plan for these weeks.

15–27th of August: Cycling (Trollhättan–Oslo) and having our self-organized Ecotopia festival Ecotopidu somewhere on the way

27th of August–1st of September: OSLO

1–7th of September: Cycling

7–10th of September: LILLEHAMMER

Stay tuned for the registration form and the introductions of the projects that we will be visiting!

Route plan for the Childish Weeks

Title Ecotopia Biketour on black. Picture of a black bicycle. Colorful background which is kid's doodling with markers. Underneath text CHILDISH in blue and WEEKS in pink.

Childish Weeks will be a section of the Ecotopia Biketour 2026, noticing the needs of children joining the tour. This section will happen 1st–14th of August in Borås – Göteborg – Trollhättan. These start and end dates and locations are set (meaning we will not make changes to them) to make it easier to plan joining the tour with kids.

During Childish Weeks the plan is to cycle around 20 km per day and do camping in nature, making use of wind shelters on the way. (Projects and contacts are also still welcome for this part of the tour as well!). Note that people joining the Childish Weeks can also choose together to do more kilometers per day and then have more rest days somewhere.

Section is open to all – not just for people joining with kids!

You can email us at [current year]@ecotopiabiketour[dot]net to be added to the specific Signal group chat of the Childish Weeks.

Note:
Distance between Borås and Göteborg is 68 km, meaning cycling per day might be less than 20 km depending on where the camp spots are found. Distance between Göteborg and Trollhättan is 80 km, meaning cycling per day might be bit more than 20 km depending on where the camp spots are found.

We will not make changes to the start and end location (of Childish Weeks) and their dates. The plan for the other days instead is a rough plan that can slightly change before or during the tour.
