La Prochaine Aire

La prochaine aire, a word game for being the next rest stop/next era is a project that based in an abandoned canal house that was used for navigation. The town of Joigny used to be a place for the military industry and in the 90’s when that industry left, 10% of the population left leaving the town with many social issues, poverty and empty buildings. In a region mainly holds a right wing conservative population the left activists were looking for a safe space to gather in the outskirt of town and were passing by that abandoned house and realized…

Bure – struggle against the mega-nuclear-waste-dump

Then we enter in the area close to bure, infested with police surveillence and pretty abandoned otherwise. There is almost no cars on the roads, many houses in the few villages are empty or completly falling apart. The perfect place for the gigantic nuclear waste burial project CIGEO (an acronym for Centre Industriel de Stockage Géologique, or Industrial Centre for Geological Disposal). ANDRA (National agency for the management of radioactive waste ) didn’t choose this area because the ground is paticulary suitable to contain the radiating material but rather because it was possible to convince a big part of the…

CALL OUT for antiracist and anticolonial projects.

Ecotopia 2025 has slowly started rolling forward…. This year we will be heading to Northern France and surrounding areas! The planning of the route is currently ongoing. Ecotopia is a self-organised biketour riding across different parts of Europe every year creating community and connection on the road, learning together, organizing on consensus basis without hierarchies. We promote DIY culture, ecological lifestyle, queerfeminism, antiracism and intersectional values. The tour lasts 3 months and usually consists of 15-30 cyclists at a time. We visit different activist and social projects, hold workshops and skillshares on the way, fight injustice and support each other…

day by day: RIGA — LIEPAJA

26.08 Riga, Fukusima Struggling with finding my way to Fukusima, but getting a reply quickly when I ask for help. Being welcomed by the only person I know there. Eating my lunch together with the food which is immediately offered to me, some couscous and pickled vegetables and mushrooms, while the question “Is it better to have diarrhea or to vomit while biking?” is discussed. People apologize for the imagery, and I say that I don’t mind and sharing related stories of my own. Eating pancakes with banana and peanut butter and chocolate paste. Repairing the roof of an overwater…

Kombinatas Fest and Back To Biking 15.08.-22.08.24

Our ecotopian experience started at Kombinatas Fest, in a north-east lithuanian campsite, the 15th of August. Getting there from Barcelona was a challenging experience on itself, taking into account our willigness to avoid planes. But we achieved it!! And realised that there is still much to be done in improving train connections, prices and bike users friendlyness. In that last aspect, there was one key ingredient that helped us a lot: bike sharing among the ecotopian group. Since the group was changing, there were two kind and cool people leaving two bikes that were incredible matching our sizes and expectations.…

Time Travel to Tampere – 12.07.-15.07.

note: Our route this year has not been straight forward or following any sensible, chronological order! Don’t be confused that our blog posts are also coming in a non order of anarchist chaos. This post is about Tampere, which was our third place to visit after Helsinki and Turku. So, all of this took place before the last four blog posts you may have read, enjoy a little time travel! Tampere Tampere Tampere! This was my 1st Ecotopia bike tour, and first bike tour. I wasn’t sure what to expect and was nervous about how it would go with the…
