Off Topic: Oettinger Villa...

...needs support!

support oetinger villa

I know it is a bit off topic and not the sense of the Biketour homepage, but its important for the local groups here in Darmstadt. The Oetinger Villa, a self-governing youth center, risks to be closed. The mayor decided to let the german-polish institute to move into this building against the decision that another building for this institute has to be found.

Oetinger Villa is the place for many local groups, e.g. environmental groups (Anti-CASTOR), antifascist groups, vegan groups, theater and artist groups. Its a place where subculture can be practised, has a nice concert room, rooms for local bands etc. etc. In Darmstadt it is almost the only place where you can go to find cheap, non-commercial, good concerts and parties without racist prejudice and sexist people, no stupid security guards and stuff like that. I just wanted to inform you about this desaster, if you feel like supporting the Oetinger Villa, send a mail to Peter Benz: oberbuergermeister[at]darmstadt.de (old mayor), to Walter Hoffmann (new mayor who promised to keep the villa during elections) DerNeue[at]walterhoffmann.de www.walterhoffmann.de . Make pressure to the socialdemocrate party of Darmstadt: www.spd-darmstadt.de and the green party www.gruene-darmstadt.de who are both responsible for this decision. If you feel like, send also mails to newspapers like "Darmstaedter Echo" Leserbriefe[at]darmstaedter-echo.de and "Frankfurter Rundschau" darmstadt[at]fr-aktuell.de .

It is not our objective to act against the german polish institute, we just want to be involved in the discussion and a good solution to be found for both sides. Would be very nice if polish people send a mail to the german-polish institute: kaluza[at]dpi-da.de .

Thanks for your help!
