--- Please distribute widely --- Got enough of these all-inclusive summerholiday trips to the beach ? Then you'll be happy to learn about the do-it-yourself *Bread & Water Tour* aka Ecotopia Biketour 2004! We will keep far way from any beaches, blue water, entertainers or cocktail-nights at the hotel bar, but go for the pure basic form of travelling: sleeping on the ground, eating food prepared on camp fires and meeting people, who are not paid a lot to be friendly to you. Moving all our stuff by sheer muscle power, we will create an eco-mobile community to connect 4 amazing events with a 6-week celebration of sustainable transport. We will start on the 1st July in Vienna, visit Prague, the Towards Car-Free Cities Conference - http://worldcarfree.net/conference/ - in Berlin and the Wendland Summercamp - www.sommercamp-im-wendland.de/ - in Gedelitz (D) as well as supporting numerous ecological groups along the way by visiting them and joining them for actions. Our final destination is the Ecotopia Camp - http://www.eyfa.org/ecotopia2004intro - in Gornichem (NL), where we will arrive in mid-August. One branch heading for the European Cycling Messenger Championchips - http://ecmc2004.org/ - in Warsaw will leave the biketour in Berlin. The biketour is a self-sustaining community, with all participants expected to take a share of tasks and to participate in the non hierarchical, concensus-based decision-making process. Camping is the usual accommodation and sometimes we sleep in schools and private houses. For more details see www.thebiketour.net. There are usually between 25-50 participants from all over Europe, and occasionally some from further afield. Participants may come for all or part of the route. Anyone who fits the following guidelines is welcome: · You can cycle 50-80 km per day · You are interested in environmental issues and willing to take part in some actions · You are willing to take part in concensus decision-making and · You are willing to take part in the daily tasks such as preparing meals, carrying trailers, washing up or tidying the sleeping places. · Watch out: Sexist, racist, homophobic and other discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated on the tour. How to take part? Firstly, each person fills in the application form which can be found at www.thebiketour.net. Those who need visas for the countries concerned will receive as much help as possible from the Biketour organisers. Each person pays a participation fee of about 15 eco - www.eyfa.org/ecorates.htm - per day. That's around 7 euro for westerners and considerably less for easterners. The fee covers everything and cannot be reduced eg. for people who don't eat breakfast. The actual fee hasn't been decided on yet, so keep an eye on www.thebiketour.net. Also we might be able to refund your travel costs - if you travel the cheapest, most ecological way. But this still in the hands of funders -contact us as soon as possible, if your participation depends on this. At the beginning of each day there is a meeting where the route is told and we get a map for the day, the task distribution is decided upon and any others problems are discussed. Each person cycles at their own pace and we carry everything ourselves, with the large items in trailers. Also we usually cook ourselves.
